March 8, 2011 Law students at Seattle University speak out in protest in response to the Dean informing us through an email that our already outrageous tuition is going up another 5%! We're sick of the administration making budgetary decisions with no input, no representation at all by students. Our tuition dollars provide 95% of the revenues that run our school. As the only ones actually paying, we demand some control over how the money is spent. It is absurd that we pay nearly all the money, exposing ourselves to remarkable debt, while those we pay make all the decisions about how to spend our money.

Because course loads vary widely, it’s hard to tell how many students will receive free tuition until registration closes in the fall. The remaining $3.3 million in funding will go toward covering books, transportation, supplies and health fees for low-income students who have Board of Governors (BOG) tuition waivers. Overall, the program could provide some form of assistance to 28,000 to 30,000 students, Hamilton told the NewsHour, though it’s not clear how many will enroll. “This commitment will provide our residents the opportunity to attend college, continue to learn and create better lives for themselves,” Lee said. “This is an investment in our youth, in our city and in our future.””* Read more here: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/san-francisco-becomes-first-city-offer-free-community-college-tuition-residents/ Hosts: Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola Cast: Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Xander Tennent: It's under $12,000. Compared to many other competing film schools, it's like a drop in the bucket. Chris Ramirez: We understand that not everybody may have the full lump sum of tuition sitting in their bank accounts, but at the same time we do offer flexible payment plans, a one-year plan, a two-year plan, as well as financial assistance. Gerald Keys: If you're able to pay it in full, you're not going to have to worry about the interest rates that are applied with student loans, and we do offer a $1,000 discount. Tommy Lee Kirby: You can do a down payment, and then there's a one to four year payment plan, where monthly payments are as low as $200. Gerald Keys: You know, make monthly payments on a salary that is regular for a high-school student. Tommy Lee Kirby: And then there's the financial assistance package, where, if the student doesn't have a credit score of 680 or above, and is not currently employed, they would need a cosigner, probably mom or dad, friend of the family, it could be anyone. Then they would basically be able to sign up for the program, meet the mentor, and decide if this is for them. Germar Townsend: It's affordable. I mean, the easiest way to say it, I went to school I used to have three degrees and I'm now $100,000 in debt. James Petulla: Our goal with this program is to not have people get into debt. Tommy Lee Kirby: Our financial assistance packages keep students out of debt. We have people coming in that are 35, 65, 55...there's no limit. Xander Tennent: While most schools are out there selling dreams, we're actually selling opportunity.
